Located in the very center of Negotin is the birth house of one of the most important Serbian composers – Stevan Stojanovic Mokranjac. In this authentic setting, where Mokranjac was born on January 9, 1856, his life and musical journey began.

Today, visitors can see objects that testify to his life and work – the piano he played, his writing desk with an inkwell and feather pen, family portraits, and the authentic fireplace that preserves the spirit of the era in which he created.

Mokranjac is considered the most important representative of Serbian musical Romanticism and one of the founders of Serbian musicology. His best-known works include Rukoveti, Coastal Melodies, Liturgy, Requiem, and Kozar, while he also made a significant contribution to the collection and study of traditional folk melodies. Today, the Birth House of Stevan Mokranjac holds the status of a cultural monument of exceptional importance and represents an essential destination for all lovers of music, history, and tradition.
