The Historical Museum of Belogradchik is housed in the cultural monument known as “Panova House,” a prominent example of Pre-Balkan Revival architecture. It was built in 1810. The building is two-storey, with wooden-clad walls, two open verandas (chardaks), a stone-built ground floor, and an upper floor projecting in an overhanging bay.

This architectural gem of Belogradchik preserves within its walls the everyday life and folk culture, as well as the Bulgarian pursuit of beauty and desire for freedom during the era of the National Revival. The exhibition introduces visitors to the socio-economic development of Belogradchik and the surrounding region during the 18th–19th centuries.

The displayed artifacts—such as a wooden plough, measuring containers, threshing sledges (dikani), and threshing rollers—along with two engravings by the Austro-Hungarian traveler Felix Kanitz, provide insight into how land was cultivated and grain was harvested. Special attention is given to livestock breeding as the main livelihood of the region, as well as the cultivation of vineyards, cotton, and other crops.

The exhibition also highlights the flourishing development of crafts such as blacksmithing, wool processing (abadjiystvo), shoemaking, pottery, tailoring, and felt-making.

The museum’s scientific research and fieldwork activities, in addition to their traditional thematic focus on the spiritual and material culture of the 15th–19th centuries, also include studies of the Balkan Wars, as well as research materials related to the history and combat route of the 15th Infantry Lom Regiment.

Research has also been conducted on the endemic species Bulgarian Eranthis, found in the Vrashka Chuka area, as well as on the distribution of Ramonda serbica near the villages of Vrbovo and Targovishte.

The museum’s current structure includes the following departments: “Archaeology,” “History of Bulgaria (15th–19th centuries),” “Nature,” and “Art.”
